Toys into Tools

&

Having the Right Tools for The Job

In Lexicology for Reading classes students learn through guided discovery, aural, oral, kinaesthetic and quizzical tasks. In Key Stages One and Two the recipe for success in learning Lexicology is that we turn toys into tools. The resources include Prefix and Suffix Jigsaws; Cuisenaire; Drywipe Jigsaws to complete; Alphabet Dice; a Wheel of Fortune / Plenary Wheel; Etch a Sketch / Magnetic Boards or Drywipe Boards; Reader Pens; Board Games; Buzzers and Bingo.

There are Toolkits for all Key Stages which can be adapted to suit the most appropriate learning styles for the groups. However all Toolkits contain left and right handed Stabilo Rollerball Handwriting Pens; a set of Bookmark Coloured Overlays; Highlighters; a constantly changing set of Definition Match Cards and from Key Stage Two onwards an Electronic Dictionary Bookmark. We recognise the importance of having the right tools for the job moreover the importance of developing the skill set to become Lifelong Learners - rather than knowledgeable in finite vocabulary.
